Text Formats

Markdown comments

  • You can use Markdown formatting here:
    • Double returns = Paragraph break
    • > Text starting with greater-than sign = Quote a block of text, from a previous comment for example
    • *Asterisks* = Emphasis
    • Text with [a link](https://meaningness.com/about-my-sites) = Text with a link to the web address in round parentheses
  • Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically.
  • Allowed HTML tags: <a> <em> <strong> <blockquote> <i> <b> <cite> <code> <ul> <ol> <li> <dl> <dt> <dd>

  • Amazon filter is enabled.
  • Simple glossary pop-up module is enabled.
  • Lines and paragraphs are automatically recognized. The <br /> line break, <p> paragraph and </p> close paragraph tags are inserted automatically. If paragraphs are not recognized simply add a couple blank lines.
  • Email addresses will be obfuscated in the page source to reduce the chances of being harvested by spammers.
  • Typogrify.module brings the typographic refinements of Typogrify to Drupal.
    • Converts multiple hyphens to en dashes and em dashes (according to your preferences), using SmartyPants.
    • Adds a css style sheet that uses the <span> tags to substitute a showy ampersand in headlines, switch caps to small caps, and hang initial quotation marks.

General explanation: Meaningness is a hypertext book. Start with an appetizer, or the table of contents. Its “metablog” includes additional essays, not part the book.

Subscribe to new content by email. Click on terms with dotted underlining to read a definition. The book is a work in progress; pages marked ⚒︎ are under construction.
